Christmas Child Shoebox Collection

As we do each year we ask the pupils to think of those that may not be as fortunate as ourselves and encourage them to support the Christmas Child Shoebox initiative – and we are delighted to say that there was a great response. The boxes were collected form the school after the min-term break, here are photos’ of some of our contribution to the overall effort. We wish to express our thanks to everyone.

Autumn Activities in Junior & Senior Infants

Autumn is an exciting time.

We love the wonderful autumn colours and jumping in the crunchy autumn leaves. We learned some autumn rhymes and sang a great song called “Autumn Leaves are Falling Down.”

We talked a lot about the animals in autumn – Sammy Squirrel and Harry Hedgehog. We learned a song about Harry’s preparation for his long winter sleep.

We also sang a song called “Hibernation” and we learned all about the different animals who enjoy the big long sleep.

We made our own autumn landscape and made some little hedgehogs to sleep in it.

We also decorated our big tree with autumn leaves and then we made some hedgehops and squirrels to live in it.

Look at our pictures!

Junior Tour

On Friday 22nd June 38 little people from Junior & Senior infants & First class set off on our tour.

First stop was Athlone Fire Station, there we met Barry & Anthony who gave us a great welcome!

They showed us the fire suits, the big yellow helmets and then the huge fire engines. Finally we all got a go spraying with the hose, that was the best bit!

Then we headed for Coosan Point where we had our picnic, played in the playground and fed the friendly ducks.

On the way home we stopped for ice pops.

Ms O’Connell took lots of photos of us having fun. Have a look..

Awards / Open Day

Awards / Open Day

Thursday June 21st was a very big day for all of us in Kilcleagh N.S.

We finally were able to see our finished art pieces – the 4 completed montages were on display in our gym.

Everybody had worked on a canvas and there was great excitement as the children searched for their own. Our Artist In Residence – Rosemarie Langtry was on hand to open the exhibition and we thank her for her hard work.

The school is, as always, very grateful to Westmeath County Council for their contribution to the project.  We could not do this work without their financial input.

Next on the agenda were the end of year school awards – our Sportsperson of the Year for 2018 and the Award for Contribution to School Life:

George from 6th class and Sean from 5th class were the deserving recipients.

We also had lots of little visitors on the day – they came with their parents to see what their junior infant classroom looks like and to meet each other before big school starts on August 31st.

We had a very busy afternoon – but we still weren’t finished as “Summersong” was on at 7 pm the same evening. It went really well and we said a bittersweet goodbye to our 6th class.

We also raised €500.47 towards school funds for which we are extremely grateful.

We took lots of pictures, so have a look…
